Flexible opportunities if you want to progress from HN study to a part-time degree

Fife College works with The Open University (OU) in Scotland to create flexible opportunities for students who wish to progress from their Higher National study to a part-time degree. The BA or BSc (Open) degrees allow you to choose from a wide range of OU modules tailored to your needs This means you can build on the subject areas you studied in college, but it also provides the flexibility to develop skills and knowledge in other subject areas. If you have an HND, you can transfer up to 240 credits towards The OU’s 360 credit BA or BSc (Open) with Honours. Similarly, if you have an HNC, you can normally transfer between 90 and 120 credits towards the 300 credit BA or BSc (Open) or the 360 credit BA/BSc (Open) with Honours.

New campus-based partnership degree: BA (Hons) Social Sciences

This new partnership offers HND: Social Sciences graduates the flexibility of studying part-time with The OU while maintaining regular face to face tutor support through Fife College.

You can earn a valuable Honours Degree while balancing academic studies with your other commitments.

You'll continue to have access to ICT, library and facilities at the College, as well as access to the largest university in the UK – renowned for its quality learning experience.

Classes are typically timetabled for one day a week. This should enable you to progress with your studies and manage your other life commitments.

With The Open University, you can study part-time where and when it suits you at home or at work, on the move or at the park reading, watching and listening, doing activities and assignments, taking part in debates and discussions. You get regular support from your tutor and Student Support Team, and youll be able to get together with other students online, at group tutorials and through informal study groups.

Building on your HN qualification, you can claim credit transfer and shorten the time it takes to get a degree. 

Choose from a wide range of subjects from arts to accounting, computing to care, science to sport.

If you’re studying at least 30 credits at undergraduate level and your personal income is £25,000 or less (including replacement living-cost benefits), you may be eligible for a Part-Time Fee Grant, which will cover the cost of your course fees.
