Fife College students were delighted to have been given the opportunity to attend a prestigious careers event, held at the College’s Carnegie Conference Centre recently.
Travel and Tourism students who participated in the 7th Annual Travel and Tourism Conference
The 7th Annual Travel and Tourism Conference, organised by Fife College NQ Events students, hosted a variety of different industry organisations such as Jet 2, Canvas Holidays and Swissport who provided the students with career opportunities, advice and tips on how to succeed in such a competitive industry.
The Conference acted as an interview assessment day where students were given the chance to experience an industry standard interview process and the chance to gain employment in the travel and tourism industry upon completion of their course.
The students took part in a variety of team work activities in the morning. This included a general knowledge test and a ‘desert island’ team activity which involved the students prioritising a list of objects, essential for survival - this assessed their problem solving skills, teamwork and communication skills. The students then moved on to the one-on-one interview in the afternoon.
NQ Events students took on the role of event organisers for the Conference and were responsible for all aspects of the event, including, set-up and bookings.
Duncan Campbell, Curriculum Manager for Hospitality, Tourism and Retail at Fife College was delighted with the success of the event and hopes the students have taken something away from it, such as interview advice, a career plan or confidence in their chosen career path. Duncan said: “I was thrilled to see the students getting so involved in the event and using the knowledge they have developed in class for their interview. Congratulations to the NQ Events students for the fantastic event they have facilitated.”
Fife College has over 75 ex-students working in the travel and tourism industry all over the world, many of whom have been successful candidates at the Travel and Tourism Conference in the past.
