The NC Retail level 5 students raised an amazing £504.28 from holding two events, one at Poppyview Family Centre in Methil and the other at the College’s Levenmouth Campus in Buckhaven. The students produced, designed and sold handmade original gift wrapped products such as unique scented pine cones, confectionary bouquets, Disney themed penguin mugs, healthy eating plates, beautiful homemade shortbread and accessory products.

The money that was raised will go towards the Adam Smith Foundation scholarship programme to ensure that students who need it are supported while they learn. Other classes were invited to join the events with their own enterprise projects –including Access to Retail level 4, Access to Business level 4 and Access to Further Education students who helped make the event a great success.

Karen Dyce, course tutor, is extremely proud of the students’ efforts and said: “This group has truly demonstrated their entrepreneurial skills by producing unique products that arose from group discussions; they have gone the extra mile from attending an evening event to supporting each other through a challenging business enterprise activity.

“It’s fantastic that their efforts have not only helped to improve their own skills but will now support deserving students in college.”

Gaynor Jamieson, Trust Fundraiser said:  The Adam Smith Foundation is delighted to see students demonstrating effective citizenship skills and applying their enterprising and creative talents to support the Scholarship programme.

“The funds raised are going to a great cause – to create a new scholarship which students will benefit from and also have a say on its purpose and criteria.”
