The banquet celebrated the end of the year for the students, showcasing the skills learned and their fantastic teamwork. SVQ Level 4 and 5 classes worked together to prepare, cook and serve the banquet to 60 guests to complete coursework and raise vital funds.

Lecturer Michael Henderson is keen to build upon this year’s success to create future opportunities for Fife College students. Said Michael: “The students have excelled and I am confident, that by working in partnership with industry partners and other colleges, the students will rise to the challenge of future banquets and cooking competitions to truly show their confidence, skills and abilities.”

£1000 was raised through tickets, a photo booth and also a raffle sponsored by local companies. The funds will be used to visit local restaurants as well as to attend ScotHot, Scotland’s largest food, drink and hospitality trade show which is a valuable learning and networking experience, featuring Michelin Starred Chefs such as Andrew Fairlie and MasterChef: The Professionals winner 2016 Gary MacLean.

The students, who hosted the banquet, are all moving on to exciting new challenges in industry or into the next stage of training at Fife College which includes the new Level 6 Professional Cookery course. The Level 6 course offers more advanced cookery techniques, a chance to develop more supervisory experience as well as offer exciting career prospects in prestigious locations such as Fairmont St Andrews and the Old Course Hotel.

Fife College offers a wide range of courses in culinary arts and hospitality and places are available now for courses starting in August. For further details call 0344 248 0115.
