The 20 year old, who previously attended Dunfermline High School, is now living the dream as an award winning Apprentice Mechanical Engineer with Babcock International in Rosyth and attends Fife College as part of his apprenticeship.

The College has been so impressed with Cameron and his passion and commitment to his course work, they entered him into the apprentice of the year category at the Courier Awards held recently in Dundee. Cameron attended the event with his parents, colleagues and staff from the College and from Babcock and was surprised and delighted to come away with the top award.

Said Cameron: “I was made redundant a few years ago and was desperate to secure a good job and training with prospects. I’m really proud to be working for Babcock and really enjoy my job. Since I was small I have always liked taking things apart and putting them back together so being an engineer was always on the cards for me.

“I was pleasantly surprised to hear that I had been nominated for the Courier awards. It was a fantastic evening and great that my lecturer Dougie Knox, who nominated me, and my colleagues from Babcock were also able to attend along with my parents. Receiving this award has been fantastic!”

Dougie Knox, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Fife College’s Rosyth Campus said: “Cameron is a fantastic student and very deserving of this award win. We are confident that he will continue to do well in his apprenticeship and in his future career in the engineering industry.”

In his spare time Cameron enjoys raising money for charity and grew a moustache during November for the charity Movember. He is also a keen rugby player and is a member of the Dunfermline Rugby Club whom he trains with twice a week.

Fife College offers a wide range of engineering courses including courses available from January including SVQ in Pro-Engineering and NQ Engineering Pre Apprenticeship.
