Lyndsay, 31 celebrated her success recently with fellow classmates at a special event held at the Lomond Centre in Glenrothes after completing a range of College courses available through the Centre in partnership with Fife College.

The Mum of one left school in Kinross with some qualifications which led her on to a range of jobs including waitressing, bar work and tele sales. Lyndsay was keen to get a better job and so decided to come to College.

Studying in the community proved to be the right step for Lyndsay who has successfully gained qualifications and skills including PC Passport, English, Maths, Cookery on a Budget and Food Hygiene.

Said Lyndsay: “I have really enjoyed coming back to College – the community courses are a great stepping stone on to further learning. Thanks to studying in the community I have just started an NC Computing and Digital Media course at the College’s Stenton Campus in Glenrothes. Long term I hope to go on to university to study web design or computer games design.

“It has been hard at times to juggle being a mum to my 5 year old son James along with studying but I feel it is important to be a good role model and keep up-to-date with the latest skills so I can improve my job opportunities.”

Kay Hamilton, Lecturer and Programme Leader for Supported Programmes in the Community said: “The College has worked in partnership with Fife Council since 1999 as part of the Central Fife Training Partnership with the aim of increasing the confidence of learners who do not feel ready for mainstream College courses and for some to support them in the search for employment.

“Lyndsay is a great example of what you can achieve by coming to College and of the important role our community facilities play in helping people improve their qualifications and skills.”

Fife College offers a wide range of part-time and full time study. Places are still available for courses starting soon. To find out more visit courses or call 0344 2480115.
