Continued development is a key cornerstone of Fife College. So, in a testament to lifelong learning and dedication, we’re proud to celebrate the accomplishments of one of our own, Karen Lowrie, this Love Scotland’s Colleges Week.

As an Estates Administrator, Karen has achieved her HNC in Facilities Management, celebrating at one of our recent graduation ceremonies. This only adds to her already impressive CV which began with an HND in Information Office Management obtained in 1993!

Karen's journey at Fife College has been marked by an unwavering commitment to professional development. With over two decades of service in the Estates team, her decision to further her education reflects not just personal ambition but a commitment to improving the College's environment and operations. Her completion of the HNC course is a great example of how continuous learning directly benefits both individual careers and our broader community.

What’s more is that this fantastic achievement not only comes 30 years after Karen’s initial graduation, but also in Fife College’s 125th year; a further testament to our long-standing dedication to education and continued improvement for our community and those within it.

Reflecting on her experience, Karen shared:

"I’ve been working in the Estates team as an Administrator for about 26 years now and decided to get my HNC to upgrade my qualifications. It’s been very hard work, but worth it in the end. Taking on this course has already been helping in my current role; I’ve picked up things that I’ve never done before."

Karen's new skills aren’t just providing a boost to her current role but are expected to play a crucial part in the success of the forthcoming Dunfermline Learning Campus, she adds:

"I think, with the new Dunfermline Learning Campus too, a lot of the skills that I’ve taken from the course will really help but, like I say, I’m already using these new skills to improve what I do."

Fife College congratulates Karen Lowrie on her achievement and, this Love Scotland’s Colleges Week, we celebrate her as an embodiment of the lifelong learning spirit that we cherish. We hope her story provides inspiration, highlighting the impact of continued education on personal and professional growth, and ultimately, on the quality of service and innovation within our college and the community we serve.
