Fife College will host a Swap Shop event on Monday 26 February as part of the Fife Climate Festival.

Taking place between 11 am and 2 pm in the College’s Dunfermline Campus Climate Hub room (3.17), the event will be open to students, staff and anyone in the local community.

95% of clothes that end up in landfills could have been recycled or re-used with the Fife College Swap Shop set up to allow people to donate clothes they no longer want so that these items can be kept in circulation longer and reused by others.

This saves carbon emissions and resources from creating new items and allows people to find a new outfit for free, in exchange for what they donated. At this event, staff from the College’s Sustainability team will be on hand to weigh swapped clothes so that the carbon emissions saved from entering the atmosphere can be calculated.

The event is part of The Fife Climate Festival, a celebration of community climate action which is organised by the Fife Climate Hub and Fife Communities Climate Action Network.

Lucy Jackson, Sustainability Co-ordinator at Fife College, said:

“The Sustainability team of Fife College are excited to be taking part in raising awareness among others about the climate emergency. We look forward to showcasing the Swap Shop initiative we have for our students and staff and encouraging community members to help make swapping the new norm.”
