HND in Musical Theatre SCQF Level 8

SCQF Level 8

This demanding practical course has been designed to equip you with practical skills, training and development in voice, singing and music theory, movement and dance practice as well as acting techniques. Working with experienced lecturers and industry practitioners, you will develop the skills and techniques required for a career in musical theatre and performing arts.

On successful completion of HND year 1, you will have achieved an HNC in Musical Theatre.

Duration and Attendance

  • HNC – one year full-time
  • HND – two years full-time

This course is offered as a one year HNC or two year HND. Entry requirements are the same for both.

Entry Requirements

External Candidates

One of the following:

  • Two Highers including Drama and/or English
  • NC Acting and Theatre Performance at SCQF Level 6
  • A related/relevant NC course at SCQF Level 6
  • Industrial experience or other relevant qualifications will be considered on an individual basis


  • Successful audition

You will be required to take part in a workshop and present a musical theatre practical portfolio consisting of:

  • A monologue (between 1.5-3 minutes)
  • A prepared song (2-3 minutes)
  • A prepared movement/dance sequence (1 to 2 minutes).
  • Please bring sheet music/accompaniment with you to audition

Internal Candidates

  • NC Acting and Theatre Performance Level 6 and a successful audition
  • Another related/relevant NC course at SCQF Level 6 and a successful audition
  • On successful achievement of HND year 1 Musical Theatre, an offer of progression to HND year 2 will be made
