If you do not receive an EMA, Bursary or SAAS Award, you may still be eligible for support with rent/mortgage or childcare payments. If you are studying a Further Education course, you may also be eligible for support with travel.*

If you require assistance towards rent or childcare expenses please apply to the College directly via the Student Funding Application Form which you will be able to pick up from any main campus reception.

The sections below will give you more information on childcare, rent and travel funding. You need to accept your unconditional offer of a place at Fife College before you can apply for funding for childcare, rent or travel funding.

Childcare

This is a limited amount of money available in this fund to support childcare payments. It is means tested and not all students who apply for assistance with childcare will receive assistance.

If you have children then you can apply for assistance with your childcare costs but only for your college timetabled hours and mandatory work placement as part of your course.

We can only give assistance with registered childcare providers, nurseries or breakfast/afterschool clubs.

Some childcare providers charge for deposits and no assistance will be given to cover these costs.

You will be sent an award letter detailing the value and dates of payments with a copy for your childcare provider. Please ensure you pass this letter on to them.

If additional days for childcare are needed e.g. in-service days then we may be able to support this but will need confirmation from your childcare provider of this and the additional costs.

No formal contract will exist between childcare providers and the College. We only pay childcare costs on your behalf and you are expected to adhere to the College's Attendance Policy to ensure continued payments are made. Childcare payments are based on 100% attendance at college.

If you are changing childcare provider and there is a crossover period between the notice period for termination of contract and starting with the new childcare provider, we will only pay one provider during this period.

We may not be able to meet the full childcare payment. You will be responsible for meeting the shortfall.

Rent/Mortgage

There is a limited amount of money available in this fund to support rent/mortgage payments. It is means tested and not all students who apply for assistance with rent will receive assistance.

In order to be eligible for support with rent, you need to be receiving the maximum funding you are entitled to such as a bursary or student loan.

No formal contract will exist between landlords and the College. We only pay rent costs on your behalf and you are expected to adhere to the College's Attendance Policy to ensure continued payments are made. Rent payments are based on 100% attendance at college.

If you are under the age of 21 and studying a non-advanced (FE) course with your own tenancy, you can apply for Housing Benefit and should contact your local authority to apply for this.

If you are a lone parent and or have dependent children, you can also apply for Housing Benefit. Contact the Local Authority to apply.

We may not be able to meet the full rent payment. You will be responsible for meeting the shortfall.

Travel

Travelling Expenses may be paid if you live outwith a two mile radius from the College campus you study at.
