Stewart Paton

Course Taken:

(BA Hons): Childhood Studies

Date:
April 2025

My name is Stewart Paton, and I am currently studying the BA Honours and Childhood Studies. I started studying at Fife College in 2018 with School College Partnership, where I attended two afternoons a week. Since then, I have progressed on to my NC, HNC, following on to HND, and I am now sat the two years of my BA Degree. I am now finishing honours degree in Childhood Studies.

Fife College is a very inclusive environment. They supported me with my dyslexia throughout the course and actively encouraged our input on the modules to improve our college experience. This results in this course shaping the next generation of practitioners and teachers going into the profession. The degree programme is difficult, but it is the next stepping stone to going on to your post-grad qualification.

I have really enjoyed doing the additional support needs module as it is the future, and it is where we are going now with our careers. It was interesting to gain more information that I can utilise in my future career. Another unit I enjoyed studying would be the play unit and implementing different resources and putting a teacher hat on instead of being an early year's practitioner. It gave me an insight of what I would be doing as a primary school teacher. Once I have finished my degree, I will be going on to do my post-grad in Primary Teaching at the University of Edinburgh. I will be starting in August, and we will be completing that over the next two years.

I would recommend studying at Fife College as they are very supportive and very inclusive. The lecturers are always there and on hand to help you. Their support allows you to think about your next steps in the career you are looking for. They have helped and shaped me to become the practitioner I am today. If it was not for Fife College, I do not think I would be here today. Fife College has really helped me gain the confidence to go on to be a teacher and to do my postgrad and primary teacher.
