“I came to college straight from school to study National Certificate: Architecture and Interior Design and I’ve worked my way up through HNC level to now being on HND: 3D Interior Design.
“Being at college has been a great experience. The lecturers have been good and the College has been good, too, offering good support.
“Because I’ve always been in education, I felt that college was a good option for me before going to. It’s given me a little taster of what uni will be like.
“After I finish the HND, I’m going to Heriot-Watt University to study BA (Hons) Interior Design. And, because I have my HNC and HND from Fife College, I’m going straight into third year of the degree.
“When I go to uni, I think it’ll be a day in Edinburgh and a day in Galashiels, so being able to do the first two years so locally in Fife has been really good.
“Coming to college first eased me in after school. I felt that uni would be too much of a jump. I’m glad I came to college first – I’ve met really good people and got a feel for a more independent style of study – as well as got myself more familiar with the subject before moving on to uni without losing any time.
“The method of assessment on the course, projects and presentations rather than exams, helps you prepare for a job in the industry. You have to present your ideas and justify them against the brief. It gets you ready for the real world.
“After I finish my degree, I’m hoping to get a job in the industry. But I haven’t thought too far ahead – I tend to just take things a step at a time without getting ahead of myself.”
