“Before coming to college I worked as a hairdresser for 20 years. Hairdressing is a creative industry, but I’ve always had a passion for interior design.
“So, when I had my kids, I thought why not go back to study and pursue it as a career? I came to college to study the National Certificate, then moved onto the HNC and the HND. It’s been a fantastic three years!
“Because I have family commitments, being able to study local is important to me. Once I’ve finished my HND, I’m going to study BA Visual Communication and Digital Publishing at the College.
"This degree is a good progression from interior design because it gives me a degree, as well as increasing my skills.
“I’ve also just launched my own business in interior design which will hopefully take off. I also won a scholarship from the Adam Smith Foundation, and this is helping me with my business.
“We use computer programmes like Vector and Photoshop on the HND, but there’s also a lot of creative work involved, and hand drawing.
“We’ve been studying a lot of sustainability projects. One of them was on the Eco House here at the College’s Glenrothes Campus.
“I won a trip to Italy on the back of my work on the Eco House. That was a total surprise! I designed interiors for the Eco House and the designs were chosen to be installed.”
