My name is Tracy, I am 41 and I studied, Advanced Certificate: Preparation for HNC Childhood Practice (Skills Boost)
My interest in Childhood Studies comes from my experience as a parent and through my volunteer work with local children’s groups. I came to the realisation that working with children as a career is something that I am passionately enthusiastic about. Watching my children grow and learn has sparked my interest in studying child development and how as an early years practitioner I could support children’s learning.
I was attracted to this course as I having been out of the workforce and formal education for so long, I thought the skills boost course would give me a good introduction to college life and childhood practice.
I came to study at Fife College as my friends have studied at the Halbeath campus and had very positive things to say about the college. So, when I saw they offered the course I wanted to do, I happily signed up.
I have found that the Skills Boost course has been invaluable. It has given me a good foundation on which to build my HNC. The lecturers were supportive, encouraging and enthusiastic, which made the experience so enjoyable. This course was easy to fit around my personal circumstances as it was delivered online which meant I could fit it in with my family commitments. Having online lectures made it structured enough to ensure I stayed focussed and able to achieve my certificate.
This course has helped equip me with more skills and self confidence. Being on a career break meant I hadn’t really been focussed on myself in a long time and as such my self-confidence took a bit of a knock. Doing this course and achieving a good result has shown me that I can do it and has made the move into my HNC less anxious.This course has given me a solid foundation on which to build my HNC. It also confirmed to me that studying Childhood Practice is the right choice for me.
Since the completion of this course, I am studying the HNC Childhood Practice at Fife College. I would recommend this Skills Boost course to anyone that is considering study life around their personal commitments. I would like to progress my studies further and complete the BA Childhood Practice degree through Fife College.
