COURSE INFORMATION

This demanding practical course has been designed to equip you with practical skills, training and development in voice, singing and music theory, movement and dance practice as well as acting techniques. Working with experienced lecturers and industry practitioners, you will develop the skills and techniques required for a career in musical theatre and performing arts.

On successful completion of HND year 1, you will have achieved an HNC in Musical Theatre.

  • This course is offered as a one year HNC or two year HND. Entry requirements are the same for both

Year 1

External Candidates

One of the following:

  • Two Highers at Level C or above including Drama and/or English
  • National Certificate: Acting and Theatre Performance SCQF Level 6
  • A related/relevant course at SCQF Level 6
  • Relevant industry experience and/or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis

PLUS

  • Successful audition
  • You will be required to take part in a workshop and present a musical theatre practical portfolio consisting of:
    • A monologue (between 1.5-3 minutes)
    • A prepared song (2-3 minutes)
    • A prepared movement/dance sequence (1 to 2 minutes).
    • Please bring sheet music/accompaniment with you to audition

Internal Candidates

  • National Certificate: Acting and Theatre Performance SCQF Level 6 and a successful audition
  • Another related/relevant course at SCQF Level 6 and a successful audition

In addition, internal applicants will also require a positive Internal Learner Reference (ILR).

Year 2

  • On successful achievement of HND year 1 Musical Theatre, an offer of progression to HND year 2 will be made
