This course has been designed to offer you a practical, hands-on experience which covers basic skills in all theatre production areas from stage management, props, and lighting and sound, to set and costume design and construction.

You will have the opportunity to work as an assistant on public performances in our purpose-built studio theatre which develops a deeper understanding of production terminology and state of the art equipment.

One of the following:

  • Four National 5s at Grade C or above including English and Maths
  • Experience in a production role (minimum of one year)


  • HNC: Technical Theatre SCQF Level 7 at Fife College
  • HND: Technical Theatre and Production Arts SCQF Level 8 at Fife College
  • BA Technical and Production Arts at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS)
  • BA Digital Film and Television at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS)
  • BA Technical Theatre at Accredited Drama Schools throughout UK
  • BA Stage Management
  • BA Costume Design and Construction
  • BA Lighting and Sound Design
  • You may be required to take part in an informal conversation as part of the application process. This group/individual conversation may be an information session, a portfolio discussion, or a skills based exercise
