COURSE INFORMATION

This is a supported progression course for young people who are interested in a career in construction. On successful completion, this course will enable you to progress on to an SCQF Level 4 course in this curriculum area.

The skills that will be developed during this course will help you to achieve employment within the construction industry as follows: 


  • Employability
  • Problem solving
  • Numeracy
  • Communications
  • Hand skills
  • Confidence

 

  • One year full-time
  • 24 hours per week

A range of personal development units, including:

  • Practical abilities; self and work; self-awareness
  • Developing skills for employment
  • The Core Skills of ICT, numeracy and communication will be developed and certificated on this course

A range of built environment subjects including:

  • Painting and decorating
  • Carpentry and joinery
  • General building
  • Brickwork
  • Successful completion of a School Transition Form.
  • You may be required to take part in an informal conversation as part of the application process. This group/individual conversation may be an information session, a portfolio discussion, or a skills based exercise.
  • Possible progression to mainstream courses at SCQF Level 4.

Employment within a wide range of builenvironment jobs such as:

  • Painting and decorating
  • Carpentry and joinery
  • Plumbing
  • Brickwork
  • Modern Apprenticeshipin various vocational fields
  • All PPE will be supplied by the college for this course.
  • You may be required to take part in an informal conversation as part of the application process. This group/individual conversation may be an information session, a portfolio discussion, or a skills based exercise.
