COURSE INFORMATION

Graphic designers are at the forefront of a growing visual communication revolution and strongly influence the success of; corporate logos, branding, brochures, reports, promotion and marketing materials, etc. as well as finding creative solutions to communication problems. From traditional posters and magazines to e-publications and mobile/smart-device technologies, the successful visual communicator is in high-demand.

Working collaboratively with industry partners and agencies, you will participate in a range of exciting and demanding projects which will help make you ‘industry-ready’. Working on 'live' 'real-world' briefs allows you to develop other essential employability skills including; communication, problem solving, digital-skills and more as well as networking in the graphic design community.

Based in our busy Media department, you will meet and potentially work with other Graphic design students for collaborative projects, attend exhibitions and external workshops. Staff teaching on this degree are practising professionals and bring their industry and wider Visual Communication networks and experiences to enrich your learning and teaching experience.

This degree course is delivered at Fife College in partnership with Abertay University and successful students will graduate with a degree awarded by Abertay University.

Agency-led and project-focused, an integrated approach will be taken with all elements of the course in order for you to maximise your learning experience with relevant industry practice. A commercial design studio atmosphere following commercial practice will be replicated as a focus of activity.

You will be working on a mixture of live briefs, competition briefs and personal projects which all combine to produce a programme of delivery which blends industry standards with high end creativity.

In addition to an interview and portfolio of work demonstrating your visual creativity, you must possess one of the following studied at Fife College:

  • HND: Visual Communication SCQF Level 8
  • HND: Photography SCQF Level 8
  • HND: Art and Design SCQF Level 8
  • HND: 3D Computer Animation SCQF Level 8

In addition, applicants will also require a positive Internal Learner Reference (ILR).

  • Year 4 of BA (Hons) Visual Communications may be possible at Scottish universities
