COURSE INFORMATION

This course has been specifically designed for anyone who wishes to begin a career in the automotive, mechanical, electrical, fabrication and welding, or manufacturing engineering industries. You will undertake a variety of mechanical and automotive vehicle maintenance skills, to assist you to find the area that is right for you. You will develop your practical skills and knowledge with a hands-on approach throughout. 
  • Introductory skills in various disciplines within Engineering.
  • Full-Time 17 week Feb Start 
  • Full-Time 34 week August Start options available 
You will get an opportunity to try out a wide-range of different aspects of engineering and these are just some of the areas that will be covered:

  • Engineering Skills: Mechanical 
  • Engineering Skills: Electrical/Electronic

  • Automotive Skills: The Garage 
  • Automotive Skills: The Technician 
  • Automotive Skills: The Car 
  • Automotive Skills: The Vehicle Modification Project 
  • Employability Skills 
  • Information Computing Technology 
  • Communications 
  • Local Investigation 
  • Mathematics and Numeracy 
  • Three National 3s and in Maths, English, and a Technology subject with at least one of these areas at National 4 or at least an indication of ability to work at National 4 Level).
  • If you are able to demonstrate a keen interest in engineering, have good discipline and the ability to develop your practical engineering skills, you may also be considered.
  • You may be required to take part in an informal conversation as part of the application process. This group/individual conversation may be an information session, a portfolio discussion, or a skills based exercise.
  • Subject to successful interview and completion of this course, you may progress onto a wide range of appropriate Level 5 Engineering Courses for example National Certificate: Fabrication and Welding and or Transport Maintenance IMI SCQF L5 are just some of the courses available - please see our prospectus for full details. 
  • Completion of this and further courses can lead to Modern Apprenticeships or employment as a trainee in a wide range of engineering and technology areas, such as mechanical, electrical, automotive, fabrication and welding, maintenance, computer numerical control (CNC) machining, valve/pump maintenance, manufacturing, and renewable technologies.
