COURSE INFORMATION

This course is aimed at those who wish to work in the automotive, mechanical, electrical, fabrication and welding, or manufacturing engineering industries and focuses on improving broad-based practical skills and knowledge with a hands-on approach throughout.

You will gain both the SQA Engineering Skills and the EAL Level 1 Engineering and Technology qualifications. These are pre-apprenticeship qualifications where you will gain a wide range of practical experience with some examples of the situations you could face in an industry role. The course is open to both school leavers and those looking to change or further their careers.

One of the following:

  • Three National 3s in Maths, English, and a Technology subject (preferably with at least one of these areas at National 4 or at least an indication of ability to work at National 4 level)
  • If you are able to demonstrate a keen interest in engineering, have good discipline and the ability to develop your practical engineering skills, you may also be considered

PLUS

  • You may be required to take part in an informal conversation as part of the application process. This group/individual conversation may be an information session, a portfolio discussion, or a skills based exercise
  • Subject to successful completion of this course, you may progress to the second part of the programme; SVQ: Pro-Engineering SCQF Level 4, which commences each January
