COURSE INFORMATION

This SCQF Level 4 course is for people interested in exploring digital photography as either a career path or a pathway to higher-level study. It covers the basics of using the camera and manipulating light to create stunning images you can be proud of.

You will learn about composition and how to improve the 'look' of a picture. Working on your own and in small groups you will respond to photographic challenges and build up a portfolio to demonstrate your knowledge and skills.
You will achieve this course by working through the assignments and projects.
There are no exams on this course.

You will develop a variety of skills and techniques including

  • Camera Operation
  • Composition and Lighting
  • Image Editing and Manipulation
  • Experimental Techniques
  • Photography Styles and genres

18 Weeks Short Full-Time

Attendance would normally be over 2 - 3 days.

You will build your knowledge and skills by working towards the achievement of the following Units


  • Understanding Photography 
  • Photographing People 
  • Photographing Places 
  • Working with Photographs 
  • Creative Industries: Production
  • Creative Project
  • Evidence of achievement of Communication or English at SCQF Level 3 minimum
  • Ideally evidence of Photography experience e.g. a link to a small portfolio of work.

Successful completion of this short-full-time Level 4 course would normally lead to the short-full-time Level 5 course

Positions at a junior level would normally be available. e.g. Photographer's assistant, lab assistant. Junior image editor.

You will be provided with some small resources to assist your achievement and progress e.g. memory/pen-drive.
