COURSE INFORMATION

This course is ideal for those interested in a career or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering. As well as gaining a National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering at SCQF Level 6, you will also receive a high level of theoretical delivery in preparation for progression to our HNC course in Mechanical Engineering (which has articulation arrangements in place with various Universities throughout Scotland).

Scottish Wider Access Programmes, also known as SWAP courses, are for adults who have few or no formal qualifications and who have been out of full-time education for at least three years (five years if you have Highers or an HN).

This course is specifically designed for those who have left formal education and, after a period away, want to return and progress to Higher Education.

Successful completion can lead you to a guaranteed place on an HNC, HND, or degree course at college or university in the SWAP–East network (for more information about SWAP courses and progression options, visit the SWAP website).

Engineering is everywhere, helping transform people's lives around the globe. The work that engineers do is creative and hands-on. It's about designing things, finding solutions and improving things.

Engineering is one of the few career options that spans every sector, from sport to space. So whatever you care most about, there will be some engineering involved.

According to Engineering UK, 124,000 engineers and technicians with core engineering skills will be required each year in the UK alone.

Did you know that Engineering apprentices earn significantly more than the national apprentice minimum wage and the average Scottish engineer salary is 28% higher per year than the average Scottish salary.

So, there has never been a better time to start your career in Engineering!
