COURSE INFORMATION

Transform your passion for sport, coaching and fitness into a rewarding career supporting and motivating others to develop and realise their potential. This course will prepare you to access Higher National level courses or entry level employment within the sport and fitness industry. The units are delivered mainly at Higher level, (SCQF level 6) and include both sport and fitness topics, providing you with a pathway on to HNC Coaching and Development of Sport or HNC Fitness, Health and Exercise.

  • Key concepts of how nutrition, health and wellbeing impact positively on performance in sport and fitness activities
  • Understanding the different sport and exercise science disciplines and their contribution to the study of sport, fitness and coaching
  • Application of theory to real-life situations in sport and fitness environments
  • Information Technology (IT) and Digital Technology for research, problem solving and monitoring and evaluating performance
  • Understanding the benefits of effective leadership, project and team working especially for coaching
  • Maintaining your own and your clients Health, Wellbeing and Safety
  • One year full-time
  • Exercise and fitness: fixed weight training
  • Exercise and fitness: free weight training
  • Nutrition and health
  • Human physiology in the development of performance
  • Research skills
  • Sports mechanics: an introduction
  • First Aid
  • Sporting activities: Team and Individual
  • Core Skills, Work Ready Skills and Employability Skills will be developed on this course

External Candidates

One of the following:

  • Four National 5s at Grade C or above
  • A sport and fitness related course at SCQF Level 5

PLUS

  • You will need a PVG check through Disclosure Scotland in order to go out on the placement(s) as part of this course

Internal Candidates

  • Intermediate Certificate: Sport and Fitness (minimum of 13 assessed SQA credits)
  • You will need a PVG check through Disclosure Scotland in order to go out on the placement(s) as part of this course
  • Positive Internal Learner Reference

All applicants will be invited for an information session

With further qualifications the following careers may be available to you you

  • Pool lifeguard
  • Sport and fitness related kit is required to take part in practical activities, such as trainers, tracksuit bottoms, training tops, and shorts
  • You will be provided with a Fife College polo shirt, used for leading clients or client groups
  • You may be required to take part in an informal conversation as part of the application process. This group/individual conversation may involve an information session and a skills based activity.
