COURSE INFORMATION

The internet and digital technologies are transforming our society by driving economic growth, connecting people and providing new ways to communicate and co-operate with one another. However, the rise of the internet has led to the rise of cybercrime, such as identity theft, fraud, and blackmail within our communities.

There is a current skills shortage in the field of cyber security to defend against cyber-attacks. It is believed that education is key to addressing the skills gap. This course has stemmed from the need to address the growing rise in easily preventable cybercrime.

After studying this NPA, you can progress to further courses at Fife College where you can continue to study this exciting area all the way through to degree level.

Data Security

Includes the legal and ethical considerations, and the practical methods to protect personal and corporate data. The units will introduce you to the concepts around personal and corporate data security, including aspects of legal and ethical obligations.

Ethical Hacking

You will gain an understanding of the potential threats and tools that can be used by malicious hackers to target individuals and organisations. By the end of this unit, you will have the ability to implement techniques and technologies used to defend systems from attack and evaluate the Scottish, UK, and EU legislation and ethics of hacking.

Digital Forensics

You will gain knowledge of the principles and the integrity of the process involved in forensically examining digital evidence. You will also gain practical skills in identifying evidential sources across a range of digital devices and mediums. Using these sources of evidence, learners will then analyse and interpret data, its relevancy to an enquiry under investigation and the subsequent reporting of that information.

  • National Progression Award: Cyber Security SCQF Level 4
  • Fife College will accept achievement of this course as part of the entry requirements for computing course at SCQF Level 6, alongside three National 5s at Grade C or above
