Fife College has partnered with Glenwood High School in Glenrothes to deliver part of their S4 pupil’s Construction Foundation Apprenticeship course on school grounds.

The partnership is giving students the opportunity to gain an understanding of construction related projects in a familiar environment at school.

Pupils also study part of the course at the College’s Glenrothes Campus as well undertaking an industrial placement.

Part of the School College Partnership, the SCQF (Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework) Level 4 Foundation Apprenticeship in Construction is one of a range of Foundation Apprenticeships available for S3 to S6 pupils across Fife.

The apprenticeships allow school pupils to achieve a work-based qualification at an early stage in their learning.

Lynne Ralph, Head of Developing the Young Workforce at Fife College, said:

“Foundation Apprenticeships provide an excellent stepping-stone for senior phase school pupils on to career paths across a number of industry sectors, enabling them to achieve a valuable work-based qualification alongside fantastic skills.

“We are delighted to partner with Glenwood High School to give S4 pupils on the Construction Foundation Apprenticeship course a unique opportunity to learn construction skills within the school environment.

“We hope, by bringing some of the practical aspects of Foundation Apprenticeships to the school environment, that more pupils will also be inspired to consider these courses which help develop key skills, experience, and knowledge.”

Yvonne Beveridge, Depute Headteacher of Glenwood High School, said:

“Working with external partners and local businesses is very important to us. We have worked closely with Fife College for several years and continue to develop this partnership.

“Providing vocational pathways for our pupils is an important element within our curriculum framework. Our S4 construction class pupils have really enjoyed the practical construction work, which has also helped reinforce key numeracy and literacy skills.”

Fife College works in partnership with Fife Council and Skills Development Scotland to ensure Fife benefits from a range of Foundation Apprenticeships through the School College Partnership.
