Lecturer Marc Forrester meets Pepper the robot!

Fife College staff enjoyed taking part in a dynamic digital learning event, currently touring the UK, to help ensure they are at the forefront of the latest digital technologies to benefit staff and students.

Supporting all students to achieve their best outcomes is one of the key themes of this year’s Connect More events, run by education technology not-for-profit organisation Jisc.

Fife College was pleased to host the event at its Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline. On the day delegates looked at how students from all backgrounds can be supported to achieve the best possible results including ensuring student mental wellbeing.

The event included sessions on how to use digital tools to deliver an excellent learning experience and an essential part of the day was the opportunity to network and learn from other education practitioners in the East of Scotland.

Fife College is currently running a Jisc pilot project to measure its staff digital capabilities so it can provide support and resources to allow staff to develop and upskill in this area.

Lecturer Marc Forrester, who attended the event said: “The conference was a great opportunity to learn something new and share best practice which helps us all improve our digital knowledge and skills. And what better way to start an event than to be welcomed by friendly digital robot Pepper!

Kris Getchell, Assistant Principal for Digital also attended the event and said: “The conference and Jisc pilot complement the wide range of work currently taking place in College to provide a dynamic digital environment to engage, empower and enhance student experience. Other recent initiatives include a Mission to Mars event, hosted by the College in partnership with Fife Council and XMA which showcased the latest learning tools using iPads for teaching staff from across Fife. Our award-winning work in Virtual Technologies is also ongoing and together these activities form part of our wider Digital Skills strategy to ensure we are in line with the wider Scottish agenda to encourage innovation, lead change and reap economic rewards.”
