Craig with his award, Staff Member of the Year, NUS Scotland Awards

Fife College Students’ Association Manager, Craig Walker, is walking on air this week after being awarded the title of Staff Member of the Year at this year’s National Union of Students (NUS) Scotland Awards, held at Doubletree by Hilton at Dunblane Hydro.

Craig, from Kelty, was up against students’ association staff and officers from colleges and universities throughout Scotland. His leadership and ground breaking new processes, which have seen a dramatic rise in student engagement, shone through and proved a winning hit with the judges.

The Fife College Students’ Association (FCSA) was delighted to be shortlisted for two awards on the night, coming close to also picking up overall College Students’ Association of the Year for the team.

Said Craig: ‘I am extremely grateful to have won this award. I definitely couldn’t have won this without the brilliant people I work with every day and I’d like to thank them all for their support and hard work.’

Now in its ninth year, the NUS Scotland Awards are an annual celebration of the excellent work Students’ Associations, officers and staff do across Scotland.

The awards are an opportunity to share best practice, showcase outstanding results and recognise the impact of Students’ Associations and what they do to make a difference to students in their everyday lives.

Work undertaken by the FCSA, over the last four years, has seen a huge rise in student engagement while the number of Student Officers currently working on campus has also doubled.

New processes have made the Students’ Association more inclusive to all regardless of age, socio-economic background and experience while students are also gaining more benefits from participating thanks to Craig and the team.

Carol Hunter, FCSA President for Education and Representation, said:

‘I am delighted to see Craig receive this well-deserved recognition. Craig provides vital support and vision to the Students’ Association and is an asset to both the FCSA and Fife College. The whole FCSA team is truly grateful for all of Craig’s dedication and support.”

The Awards were judged by an experienced panel from across the education sector and the event is an annual celebration.
