Team 67 became the latest batch of graduates from the Certificate in Personal Development and Employability Skills course, run by the College in association with the Prince’s Trust on Wednesday 4 December.

Those on the 12-week course are supported in developing their skills, confidence, and motivation through various tasks and challenges; the primary aim being to increase employability.

As part of the course, the group of 12 took part in a wide range of activities and projects; including work placement, fundraising and a community project.

Across five days, Team 67 worked with the local community to clear overgrown areas of Auchtermuchty burn. The area was in much need of work as the group cut back tree branches and plants, cleared rubbish and installed planters. The community project gave Team 67 a great opportunity to apply their newly-developed teamwork and communication skills to move towards a collective goal.

Additionally, there was ample opportunity for the team members to test their attributes in a ‘real-life’ scenario as each of them underwent a two-week work placement. On the Prince’s Trust course, students are encouraged to think about their interests and career choices in order to gain an experience that’s tailored to their needs and ambitions.

Placement areas were varied, from retail and animal care, to jewellery making. Following a successful couple of weeks, the students were all provided with references and constructive feedback and advice for the future.

Team member, Christopher Donaldson’s fruitful work placement at BOOM, the College’s radio station, has given him inspiration for the future:

“I enjoyed the work placement I did at BOOM. I got to take part in a radio broadcast which was the most fun of all and after this I would love to come back to college and do a course at Glenrothes.”

The course is a fantastic opportunity for people, aged 16 to 25, to develop their personal and professional skills and does not affect any benefits you may currently receive.

Applications are currently open for upcoming Prince’s Trust courses, which run at our Dunfermline, Glenrothes and Levenmouth campuses.
