Fife College fashion students and staff at the Kingsgate Spring Fashion event

Shoppers visiting the Kingsgate Shopping Centre on Saturday were treated to a fashion extravaganza as talented Fife College fashion students showcased their latest designs in a catwalk show, part of a series of events organised by the Centre in Dunfermline.

Six students modelled their amazing creations at the show compered by Fife College Performing Arts Lecturers, Katie Milne and Vikki Robertson. The students took to the catwalk, in a range of colourful futuristic outfits which they designed, produced and modelled themselves.

The students also exhibited their drawings and fashion designs, and staff spoke to shoppers and to those interested in studying fashion to provide more information about the College courses on offer.

Former fashion student, Charmaine McAllister from Inverkeithing, was also at the event with a range of dancewear that she designs. Talented dancers from Fife Dance Dreams modelled her creations in a catwalk show and dance exhibition, which was enjoyed by shoppers.

Charmaine launched her dancewear company RUSH just last year, after graduating from Fife College with an HND in Fashion Design and Production with Retail.

Said Charmaine: “My daughter dances with Fife Dance Dreams and I saw an opening in the market to produce affordable dancewear. My Uncle owns a manufacturing company in Lochgelly and was able to produce the clothes for me - other family members have also helped. We are going from strength to strength and as the word gets out we are receiving more and more enquiries including those from as far away as South Africa. Completing my course at Fife College gave me a fantastic grounding in the skills I need to make my business a success – I enjoyed my three years at Fife College and would definitely recommend the course to those interested in a fashion career.”

Susan Finlay, Fashion Lecturer at Fife College, was delighted and proud of the work put in by the students and said: “What a fantastic show – the students did an amazing job and their outfits looked great on the catwalk. Real experiences such as this are extremely valuable to students and can help them secure a place at University or future employment. It’s great for them to also get feedback from the public and to use this in their future designs.

“We would like to thank the Kingsgate for the opportunity to get involved in their Spring Fashion event and to our former student Charmaine and the amazing dancers from Fife Dance Dreams who brought some added sparkle to the show.”
