Students listening to inspirational speakers

A unique event to encourage and celebrate entrepreneurial talent was hosted by Fife College recently where around 120 students, including 17 pupils from Glenrothes High School, engaged with award-winning businesses, entrepreneurs and leading role models.

The event, which was held at St Bryce Kirk in Kirkcaldy on 30th October, also included 12 support agencies and businesses including Fife Council, Business Gateway, Firstport and Brag Enterprise.

Visitors to the event were welcomed by the Director of Faculty at Fife College, Bryan McCabe-Bell and host Dee Bleakly (Motivational Speaker) who was MC for the day. This was followed by inspiring presentations from Fraser Reid from FAR Cabinet makers – a Fife Based award-winning entrepreneur and MOYA (Minds of Young Artists), a college based and student led social enterprise from West College Scotland, Paisley.

Fife College Enterprise Hub, a dedicated drop in area for students, was also launched on the day alongside the Fresh Ideas Competition, which will run throughout the year to encourage students to put forward creative business ideas in the College’s five campuses throughout Fife.

The event was open to students studying business at all levels from introductory courses through to honours degree level.

Sukie Grewal Lecturer in Enterprise, Administration and Information Technology, organised the day and was delighted with its success. Said Sukie: “What a fantastic day! Our speakers were interesting, entertaining and thought provoking and it was great to see so many partners attend and share their knowledge and experience, all of which inspired our students.

"The Fresh Start event was all about educating our students, letting them understand the entrepreneurial eco-system, collaborating and letting them hear about industry challenges and experiences from ordinary people who, were once in their shoes and now successful entrepreneurs!

“The event was also a great opportunity for us to launch our Enterprise Hub and Fresh Ideas competition and we look forward to further events such as this in the future.”
