Our exciting partnership with Heriot-Watt University and Fife Council gives you the opportunity to study and achieve an HNC (Higher National Qualification – SCQF Level 7) while still at school and studying for Highers and Advanced Highers.

You will study HNC: Computing in 5th and 6th year. Each year, two column choices are chosen for HNC units, with another column choice being used for Higher or Advanced Higher Computer Science.

At the end of 6th year you will have completed the HNC in Computing, Higher Computing Science, and Advanced Higher Computing Science.

As part of the HNC Computing you will learn how to plan, design, implement and test a variety of software solutions using a wide range of current technologies, including: Python, JavaScript,, HTML5, CSS, MSQL, Cloud Computing, Microsoft Access Database and GitHub.

As well as this exciting addition to the curriculum, the College will help you find and undertake an internship with a local or national organisation during the summer breaks - an excellent addition to your future CV at a very early stage of your career path.

The HNC has been carefully mapped to ensure that you gain your Higher and Advanced Higher in Computer Science as well as the HNC in Computing.

On successful completion of HNC Computing at the end of 6th year, you will gain automatic entry to the 2nd year of HND Computing: Software Development at Fife College. This HND allows progression to 3rd Year of the BSc (Hons) Computer Systems at Heriot-Watt University (subject to approval).
