Following a Lifelong Passion for Illustration
From a young age, Elaine Green was drawn to art, inspired by her grandfather and the colourful illustrations in children’s books. After leaving school early, she thought her creative dreams were out of reach—until 2017, when she returned to study as a mature student at Fife College.
Elaine began with HNC Art and Design in the College’s Kirkcaldy campus, followed by HNC Graphic Design and Visual Communication in the Glenrothes campus, and eventually an HND in Jewellery Design. Despite exploring various creative fields, illustration remained her true passion.
In 2022, Elaine was accepted into the prestigious Edinburgh College of Art to study Illustration.
“Fife College helped me find my voice as an artist. The support, collaboration, and creative energy there were life-changing.”
Elaine is now entering her final year at Edinburgh College of Art. In March 2025, she self-published her first children’s book, ‘The Sock in Search of his Soul’. She continues to design bespoke silver jewellery, take on art and graphic design commissions, and is set to open a public-facing design studio in summer 2025—offering creative workshops and showcasing her work.
Her new space, Studio 2 Original, will also serve as a hub for her ongoing projects. You can explore her latest creations and find out more at www.studio2original.co.uk
With a background in holistic therapies, Elaine also plans to explore the link between creativity and wellbeing in future projects.
Elaine’s Advice to Future Students:
“Stay curious and open to learning at any age or stage of your life. You are never too old to learn something new. Believe in yourself and your abilities and don’t be afraid to explore diverse styles, absorb feedback, and take creative risks. Most importantly, stay true to your passion—it is what will carry you through the challenges and make your life and work meaningful.”
