Intermediate Award: Independent Lifeskills

This course develops essential skills for independent living, supported employment, and employability. Through hands-on kitchen experience, learners gain hospitality skills, teamwork, confidence, and collaboration. You prepare basic home dishes, learn customer service, and money handling, reinforcing practical learning. It provides foundational skills for Level 3 courses or supported employment. This course is over one-year full time.

What skills will I learn?

What will I study?

  • Health and Safety at work, Understanding the importance of health and safety in the kitchen.
  • Responsibilities in the workplace, learning about the roles, and responsibilities of employees and employers.
  • Working with others, developing team work and communication and collaboration.
  • You at Work, exploring personal development introduction to barista, gaining basic skills in coffee making and barista techniques.
  • Introduction to basic first aid, learning basic first aid relating directly to the kitchen, burns, slips etc. Introduction to food hygiene, understanding food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Practice skills in the kitchen, Developing hands on cooking skills. ICT, WWO, Numeracy, Communication, P.S, Guidance and Curriculum Support unit. This will allow additional support and help with the course.
