SVQ: Learning and Development SCQF Level 9

You will complete this qualification in your own workplace. The course runs continuously with flexible start dates throughout the year. Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence drawn primarily from your workplace, demonstrating your knowledge and competence. The award is accredited by SQA and based on national standards set by the Employment National Training Organisation. The SVQ framework includes eight mandatory units and four optional units, allowing you to tailor the qualification to your role and organisational needs.

This Level 9 SVQ in Learning and Development is designed for experienced professionals who lead or manage learning and development within their organisation. What will I learn on the course?

As a competency-based qualification, this SVQ demonstrates your ability to lead and manage learning and development at a strategic level. You will evidence skills in shaping organisational learning strategies, designing and implementing complex programmes, managing resources and teams, and evaluating impact to drive continuous improvement. Optional units allow you to tailor the award to your role, including advanced areas such as coaching, mentoring, and influencing organisational culture.
To achieve the Level 9 SVQ in Learning and Development, you will complete eight units: three mandatory units and five optional units tailored to your role and agreed with your assessor. Mandatory units focus on planning, delivering, and evaluating learning programmes, as well as managing and improving practice. Optional units allow you to specialise in areas such as assessing workplace competence or monitoring the quality of assessment.
