COURSE INFORMATION

This course is designed for you if you are interested in health and social care but are unsure of the route you wish to take. You will learn about values and principles in care, human development and how social aspects can affect this; as well as the psychological development and mental health aspects in a variety of care situations. 

The course is a mix of open and closed book assessments with no final exam. You will have self study and class work, the inclusion of the higher skills units includes interview skills, research into health and social care provisions along with health and safety considerations. The audience is those who are unsure of their final destination on whether to go into nursing or social care and those students who are not SWAP applicable. 

You will develop the following skills: 
  • Team work
  • Presentation and problem solving
  • Learn about academic studies
  • Research (this will aid you, especially those considering going on to university, however those going on into employment will learn skills that can aid them understand the sector and its regulations) 
  • One year full-time
  • Employability skills, including interview and communication skills, research method, human development and care values. You will also learn about the regulation of the health and social care sector, its history and challenges. 
  • You will develop core skill components along with academic study skills. This will prepare you for further study or on to employment. 
  • Our HNC lead from this will be HNC social services, HNC Healthcare practice, HNC Childhood practice, HNC Social science and HNC additional support. This will then allow you to access to nursing and social work university programmes. 

  • Four National 5's, completion of our level 5 course, SVQ level 2, or work experience. 
  • Those who do not have the entry qualifications will be interviewed. 
  •  Work experience will be taken into account in this instance and access to the course depending on readiness to study at this level.

  • Social work.

  • Nursing.

  • Up to £100 for expenses that will include stationery and equipment for academic study. 
  • Interview for those who do not meet the qualifications required, i.e. work experience only.
