My name is Darren Trimble, and I am part of the Hospitality, Events and Tourism team, and I predominantly work within the Culinary Arts Department helping with the restaurant service.
I started off working in hospitality when I was a student at 20 years old. From there, I got into a management role rather quickly - within two years - and I really enjoyed that aspect of it. From there I was helping train new staff, students, people who had never worked in industry, and that is what inspired me to focus on teaching.
Coming to study within Travel, Tourism, Events and Hospitality is very unique, hands-on and very practical. There are lots of elements whereby we must focus on customer service and having real customers in front of us. Students are able to utilise the theory that they have learnt by putting that into practice.
For me, the best thing about working at Fife College is seeing students develop, becoming more mature, having an interest and passion for the industry, and then being able to use that later on in their career.
