What Will I Learn?
You are required to achieve one of the following qualifications:
SVQ in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (Industrial Science) SCQF Level 7 GE4C 23 SQA
SVQ in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (Industrial Science) SCQF Level 7 GE4G 23 PAA\VQSET
SVQ in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (Education Science) SCQF Level 7 GE4A 23 SQA
SVQ in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (Education Science) SCQF Level 7 GE4E 23 PAA\VQSET
SVQ Life Sciences and Related Industries SCQF Level 7 GJ30 23 SQA
Plus one of the following must be achieved:
National Certificate in Applied Sciences SCQF Level 6
National Progression Award in Laboratory Science SCQF Level 6
Higher National Certificate in Bioscience SCQF Level 7
Higher National Certificate in Applied Sciences SCQF Level 7
Professional Development Award in Laboratory Science SCQF Level 7
Higher National Certificate in Applied Sciences SCQF Level 7
You are also required to achieve the following Core Skills:
Communication SCQF Level 5
Working with Others SCQF Level 5
Problem Solving SCQF Level 5
Information and Communication Technology SCQF Level 5
Numeracy SCQF Level 5
All Core Skills will require separate certification.

Duration/Attendance
Day release, three years
Entry Requirements
Minimum entry requirement:
Two National 5s at Level C (or above) in Maths and one Science subject
Must be employed in a relevant role within the Life Sciences sector

Course Information
Applicants must be employed in a pharmacy-related setting. This is a vocational qualification supported by an underpinning knowledge programme.
What Will I Learn?
This course underpins the core set of values which all staff providing healthcare as a pharmacy technician are expected to reflect.
The framework enables the apprentice to develop an understanding of the needs of the organisation and the sector.
The units are decided by the employers and the occupational environment. The MA supports the achievement of the NHS Scotland Mandatory Induction Standards.
Qualifications Gained
Modern Apprenticeship Pharmacy Services SCQF Level 6
Duration/Attendance
12 months.
Entry Requirements
Agreed in consultation with the employer.
Entrance requirements include N5 Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and English.
Further Course Options
On successful completion, employees will have the skills and experience they need for a pharmacy technician role.
They could also progress to:
Pharmacist – Higher Education courses
Management – HNC Pharmacy Services Development and Management
Pharmacy assistant SCQF level 8 (where applicable)
CPD qualifications in pharmacy
