Course Information
This Modern Apprenticeship combines college learning with work-based training and site experience. The construction industry in Scotland desperately needs new people, and this is an ideal opportunity to learn skills that will be in demand long into the future. Achieving your Modern Apprenticeship will open up sustainable career opportunities for you to travel the UK and further afield. Candidates must be employed in a technical role within a related occupational area.
What Will I Learn?
This is a 4-year Modern Apprenticeship programme, broken down as follows;
Year 1 – Block release, totalling 19 weeks in college with the remaining time work-based with the employer
Year 2 – Block release, totalling 11 weeks in college with the remaining time work-based with the employer
Year 3 – All work-based except 1 week at college for refresher training
Year 4 – All work-based except 1 week at college to complete the requisite Skills Test
At college:
SQA PDA in Bricklaying at SCQF Level 6
In the workplace:
SQA SVQ in Bricklaying (Construction) at SCQF Level 6
Qualifications Gained
Modern Apprenticeship - Construction Building (Bricklaying) SCQF Level 6
Duration/Attendance
Four-year, block release programme
Entry Requirements
There are no mandatory qualification requirements prior to commencing the Modern Apprenticeship. However, fairing well in traditional qualifications such as Standard Grades, Nat 4s, Nat 5s and Highers would improve a candidate’s prospects of success, as would any prior vocational work experience in a related role.

In the workplace:
SQA SVQ in Carpentry and Joinery (Construction): Site Carpentry at SCQF Level 6.

Year 4 – All work-based with the exception of one week at college to complete the requisite Skills Test
To enrol on a Modern Apprenticeship in Roofing, you must be in full-time employment in a job where you’ll have regular opportunities to practice the skills necessary to become a qualified Roofer.
At college:
SQA PDA in Roofing at SCQF Level 6
In the workplace:
SQA SVQ in Roofing Occupations (Construction) at SCQF Level 6.

Who Is This Course For?
This qualification is for those in employment in a roofing role.
Course Information
This course is designed for modern apprentices who are currently working in the Construction Industry as Architectural Technologists or Technicians, Building Standards or CAD Technicians.
What Will I Learn?
Workplace:
SQA SVQ Built Environment Design SCQF Level 6
Enhancement:
HNC in Architectural Technology, fully accredited by the CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building).
Qualifications Gained
Modern Apprenticeship - Construction Technical (Built Environment Design) SCQF Level 6
Duration/Attendance
This course is completed over two academic years.
Delivered one day per week for 36 weeks per year.
Entry Requirements
One Higher in a relevant subject (Maths, English, Graphic Communication, a Science subject)
Three or four National 5s (one must be Maths)
Previous construction/trade craft experience
You need to be motivated and work well within a team, and you will be expected to work to high standards.

What Will I Learn?
It is expected that apprentices follow a 3-year programme including off-the-job training.
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following qualification:
SVQ Domestic Plumbing & Heating (GK71 23) at SCQF level 7 (297 SCQF credit points)
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following Core Skills:
Communication SCQF level 5 (6 credit points)
Working with others SCQF level 5 (6 credit points)
Problem Solving SCQF level 5 (6 credit points)
Information and Communication Technology SCQF level 5 (6 credit points)
Numeracy SCQF level 5 (6 credit points)
The Workplace Core Skills (SCQF Level 5) are embedded within the SVQ. No separate certification of these Core Skills is necessary.
Qualifications Gained
Modern Apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating SCQF Level 7
Duration/Attendance
Three-year, block release programme
