Higher National Certificates (HNCs)
HNCs are normally offered through the equivalent of one year full-time study and are generally recognised as the equivalent of your first year of study at university. Upon successful completion of an HNC, you have the option of progressing to an HND, degree or employment.search all HN and degree courses
Higher National Diplomas (HNDs)
An HND is two years of study if done as a full-time course. If you’re progressing through from HNC level, you can go straight into the second and final year of the HND. This means that you will only need a year to complete your qualification.
HNDs are generally recognised as your second year of university study and give you the option of progressing through to a degree (often entering year 3 of the degree course) or employment.
There are many routes to studying a degree with Fife College. Working alongside partner universities, we offer a great range of degrees right on your doorstep, as well as articulation routes to a wide range of university courses with the benefit of studying the first two years locally.
Progression made easy
To make it as easy as possible for you to progress to higher level courses at the College, we use an Internal Learner Reference (ILR) system.
Your ILR is an open and transparent tool that helps promote positive behaviour and employability skills, and also forms the foundation for discussions about progression to further courses.
To support your progression to a higher level college course you should meet the course entry requirements and have a positive ILR.
You can view your ILR at any time through your Student Portal.
“The biggest reason I can think of to recommend Fife College would be the staff. I believe that good students are made by good teachers. It’s certainly true in my case!"
