HNCs, HNDs and Degrees

Higher National Certificates (HNCs)

HNCs are normally offered through the equivalent of one year full-time study and are generally recognised as the equivalent of your first year of study at university. Upon successful completion of an HNC, you have the option of progressing to an HND, degree or employment.

Higher National Diplomas (HNDs)

An HND is two years of study if done as a full-time course. If you’re progressing through from HNC level, you can go straight into the second and final year of the HND. This means that you will only need a year to complete your qualification.

HNDs are generally recognised as your second year of university study and give you the option of progressing through to a degree (often entering year 3 of the degree course) or employment.
