COURSE INFORMATION

During the course, you will have the opportunity to try lots of different aspects of engineering and technology including electrical skills, so you can find the area that is right for you. You will gain recognised SQA engineering and technology qualifications at SCQF Level 4 as well as wide range of practical experience including real-life situations you could encounter in an industry role.
There are options for this course as shown below: 

  • Full-Time 34 week August start OR;
  • Full-Time 17 week Feb start 
You will get an opportunity to try out a wide-range of different aspects of engineering and these are just some of the areas that will be covered: 

  • Health and Safety 
  • Engineering Skills: Mechanical 
  • Engineering Skills: Electrical/Electronic 
  • Engineering Skills: Fabrication 
  • Engineering Skills: Assembly 
  • Practical Electronics: Circuit Design 
  • Practical Electronics: Circuit Simulation 
  • Practical Electronics: Circuit Construction 
  • Practical Electronics: Developing an Electronic Solution 
  • Employability Skills 
  • Information Computing Technology 
  • Communications 
  • Local Investigations 
  • Mathematics and Numeracy 
  • Three National 3s in Maths, English, and a Technology subject (preferably with at least one of these areas at National 4, or at least an indication of ability to work at National 4 Level).
  • If you can demonstrate a keen interest in engineering, have good discipline and the ability to develop your practical engineering skills, you may also be considered.
  • You may be required to take part in an informal conversation as part of the application process. This group/individual conversation may be an information session, a portfolio discussion, or a skills based exercise.
  • Completion of this and further courses can lead to Modern Apprenticeships or employment as a trainee in a wide range of engineering and technology areas, such as mechanical, electrical, automotive, fabrication and welding, maintenance, computer numerical control (CNC) machining, valve/pump maintenance, manufacturing, and renewable technologies. 
  • Subject to successful interview and completion of this course, you may progress onto a wide range of appropriate Level 5 Engineering Courses for example National Certificate: Fabrication & Welding and National Certificate: Electrical Engineering are just some of the courses available - please see our prospectus for full details.
