Former Fife College student Caitlin Dand has not only graduated from Dundee University with a First-Class Honours degree in Urban Planning but also secured a graduate role with Aberdeen City Council.
Caitlin, who studied 3D Design at Fife College, was among the first Built Environment students to progress to Dundee University through the College's articulation route into Urban Planning. During her studies, she also secured a placement with Fife Council through its early careers programme, gaining valuable experience within the planning profession.
Pam Ewen, Head of Planning, Climate and Sustainability Service, and Chief Planner at Fife Council, said:
“Caitlin undertook a 30-hour placement with Planning at Fife Council. This was the first placement where we collaborated with Campion Homes and Kingdom Housing Association, providing an insight into how a development was delivered.
“Caitlin really embraced the learning, gaining knowledge of the planner’s role working with other professionals in the built environment to deliver new quality homes.
“The internship was part of Fife Planning’s early career programme which provides opportunities for students and graduates.”
Karen Colville, Curriculum Manager for Art, Design and Built Environment at Fife College, said:
"Caitlin’s achievement truly demonstrates the power of collaboration between Fife College, Dundee University and industry providers, Fife Council. By working together, we’re able to open up meaningful career pathways and support our students to succeed at the highest level.
“Caitlin was always an outstanding student at Fife College studying 3D design, but urban planning as a choice for her has greatly opened up alternative career routes after the built environment course at Fife college."
Kirsty Macari, Associate Vice Principal Education and Student Experience at Dundee University said:
“This success demonstrates the impact of aligned pathways between colleges, universities and industry. Our focus on student success ensures that talent is recognised, supported and able to progress into rewarding professional careers.”
Caitlin became the first Fife College student to secure a placement with Fife Council through the Urban Planning pathway and progress through to Honours-level study. Her success highlights the opportunities created when colleges, universities and employers work together to support students into rewarding careers.
