From Scotland to New York City, Cameron Reid has already built the kind of portfolio many creatives spend years chasing. As an emerging music producer and sound engineer, his work has featured on Apple TV and Netflix, earning industry recognition alongside multiple college and university awards, and contributions to major international productions including orchestral recording and contemporary music projects.
Cameron studied Sound Production at Fife College’s Stenton Campus in Glenrothes from 2022 to 2024, following his Advanced Higher Music Technology studies at Queen Anne High School. He was drawn to Fife College for its industry-standard facilities, strong progression routes and specialist teaching staff.
“After completing my Advanced Higher in Music Technology, I was looking for the best progression route,” he explains. “The Sound Production course stood out, especially because of the facilities and the lecturers.”
During his time at College, Cameron embraced both the technical and creative sides of the course. A standout project was his Graded Unit, where he recreated Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, combining detailed production work with creative interpretation.
He also gained valuable industry-facing experience through sessions at the Laidlaw Music Centre and working with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) during live performances. These opportunities helped prepare him for fast-paced professional environments.
“Working in environments like the Laidlaw Music Centre and with the RSNO taught me how important it is to be adaptable,” he says. “You’re working in fast-paced, high-pressure situations where teamwork and communication are essential.”
Cameron also took part in an industry workshop with producer Dan Gautreau, strengthening his understanding of professional production workflows and collaboration.
The course developed both his technical ability and wider professional skills, including teamwork, time management and working under pressure in studio and live settings.
Since leaving Fife College, Cameron has built an impressive early career portfolio. He contributed to the Apple TV series Pluribus, directed by Vince Gilligan, and worked closely with composer Dave Porter during recording sessions.
“It was amazing to be part of the recording process for such a major production,” he says. “Working alongside professionals like Dave Porter gave me real insight into industry-level expectations and creativity.”
He has also worked with Glasgow-based band STRATUS, contributing to production work as they develop their presence within the Scottish music scene.
A major highlight of Cameron’s time at Fife College was being awarded the George Lauder Bursary, which enabled him to study at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in New York City. The experience had a lasting impact on his confidence and creative approach.
“It was the experience of a lifetime,” he reflects. “Studying in New York completely changed my outlook. It helped me become more confident, more outgoing, and shaped how I approach music production.”
Alongside this, Cameron has received both the Martin Burns Award and the UWS Court Medal, recognising his academic and practical excellence.
Looking ahead, Cameron aims to become one of Scotland’s leading producers and engineers while supporting the development of the wider Scottish music industry. He is currently developing Ceòl Live, a live studio recording service inspired by platforms such as Audiotree.
“I want to give back to the music community,” he says. “There’s so much talent in Scotland, and I want to help create opportunities for artists to bring their music to life.”
Cameron encourages current students to stay committed to their goals.
“Don’t give up,” he advises. “The creative industries are tough, but they’re also incredibly rewarding. Stick with it and keep pushing forward.”
Now graduating with a First-Class Honours degree in BSc (Hons) Music Technology from the University of the West of Scotland, Cameron is excited to continue collaborating with artists across Scotland and beyond.
