Ben Campbell has successfully completed his Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance (Instrumentation and Control) at SCQF Level 6 with Fife College, while working with employer Diageo.
Modern Apprenticeships are all about developing confidence, technical skills and real-world experience, and Ben's journey highlights the value of combining workplace learning with college-based training. Through hands-on experience, practical activities and ongoing support from both his employer and college staff, Ben has built the knowledge and confidence needed to progress in his career.
Reflecting on his apprenticeship, Ben said:
"Throughout my apprenticeship, I have learned a lot of valuable skills through college and work-based learning. I have learned most productively through hands-on experience on-site and through practical activities at the college.
I have gained confidence in teamwork and communication, as well as learning to be more comfortable carrying out tasks on my own. The regular check-ins have been helpful, as they have helped me keep track of my progress.
While completing my logs, there was a change in college assessor, which led to a change in the way the logs were carried out, moving from paper copies to the Online Learning Assistant in my fourth year. This led to some challenging moments; however, it overall worked out well, as it gave me a chance to go through my logs and improve them.
The introduction of more observations in the workplace was a great improvement to the overall apprenticeship. Many thanks to Graeme Cowie and Claire Brown for their help throughout my apprenticeship."
