Congratulations to Gillian Cobban on qualifying as a welder through her apprenticeship with Navantia UK.
Gillian's journey is a fantastic example of how apprenticeships can help people discover their strengths, develop specialist skills and build rewarding careers. Starting as a Technical Apprentice before progressing onto a welding pathway, Gillian embraced new opportunities and found a real passion for the trade.
It's wonderful to hear how the support provided by Fife College's Modern Apprenticeship team helped her throughout her journey, as well as the unique opportunities she had to represent Navantia UK at high-profile events.
We would also like to thank Navantia UK for their continued commitment to developing apprentices and creating opportunities that support the next generation of skilled professionals.
Reflecting on her apprenticeship, Gillian said:
"I began my apprenticeship as a Technical Apprentice with Navantia UK. After my first year at Fife College, I really enjoyed the welding part of the course, which led me to change my pathway to a welding apprenticeship.
Fife College was very supportive throughout, and I built a strong rapport with their MA team, which really helped with my progress.
Throughout my apprenticeship, I have had the privilege of representing Navantia UK at events held in the Houses of Commons, which was a proud highlight. I have also had the opportunity to represent Navantia UK at Fife College apprenticeship events.
Overall, it has been a very enjoyable journey, and I am finishing as a qualified welder with a bright future ahead. Choosing an apprenticeship was the best decision I have made for my career, as I have gained lifelong skills which I look forward to using in everyday tasks and while helping upcoming apprentices at work."
