Attendance

We have a team of Attendance advisors who are here to help support you. They can work with you, your lecturers and your course tutors to make sure you are making it to all your classes or studying on your own so you don’t fall behind on your course.

Students have a responsibility to ensure that they fully engage in their studies.This includes maintaining an optimum level of attendance both online and on campus and ensuring that they keep in touch with the College at all times.

Attendance Procedure

Students can self-authorise their first few absences within a term after this point, further absences will need to be agreed and authorised by lecturers. The decision to authorise a student’s absence will be at the lecturer’s discretion and will be based on your level of engagement and attendance thus far.

Throughout your student journey, you might hear from a member of the Attendance team. This will be based on any absences that you have had that are unauthorised in the system. We will check in to ensure that you are doing okay and to offer support for re-engagement or guidance on the absence procedure if required.

We encourage all students to have clear communication with us and their lecturers regarding attendance. If you have any ongoing issues that you feel may affect your attendance, it’s important that you make us aware of this as early as possible.

Engagement

There are many reasons as to why Engagement is so important:

  • Regardless if you are absent, a lack of engagement in studies means you run the risk of not achieving your course.
  • You should also be working from home where possible if you are absent. Accessing your student portal or contacting your lecturers for course materials.
  • It's important you remember to report any absence as this is also seen as engagement and also email your lecturers.

Reporting an Absence

There are two ways to report an absence:

  • You can report your absence via the student portal. This needs to be done BEFORE your class starts or;
  • you can also call the main college number on 0344 248 01115.
