COURSE INFORMATION

This course is an introduction to the some of specialist opportunities that exist in the Production Arts sector with the emphasis on sound, lighting, and audio-visual skills. Production Arts covers a wide range of in-demand specialist skills supporting live events in the entertainment and corporate events industries. including theatre and pantomime, music and comedy gigs in pubs and clubs, concerts in music venues, football stadiums and concert arenas, and of course the ever-popular outdoor festivals. You could have ambitions to become a stage hand, a cable runner, a backline technician, assistant stage manager, lighting or audio operator or systems technician. In addition there are related roles where you can help support event production and management.
  • This course will introduce you to in demand skills and help build your confidence and employability skills, broaden your knowledge and experience of working in this exciting creative industries sector. By giving you an introduction to the various careers in stage, screen and sound events there are also options and progression pathways into the radio, television and corporate events.
  • Problem Solving, equipment set-up and operation, resource management, fault finding, team-work and success of putting on a simple or complex show or event is something to be proud of and very rewarding.
  • One year to complete, full time study in on campus normally over 2.5 days with online support and self directed study
  • This course will develop technical and creative skills and this will provide you with the knowledge and skills to identify opportunities for employment and further study in the creative and cultural sectors in the UK and internationally. You will develop important employability skills that will be valuable to you whether you decide to progress to further study or to seek employment.
  • You will undertake projects involving sound equipment, video recording equipment and lighting equipment. Looking at the Creative Industries in the context of your chosen career path(s) will help you choose the next stage of your development, whether employment or further study.
  • Four National 4 qualifications will be required with one of these being English and one preferably being a creative subject. 
  • For adult returners, relevant industry experience and/or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.
  • On successful completion of this Level 5 course you will be advised as to the best progression pathway into our creative courses at SCQF Level 6 or even Higher National SCQF level 7. These could be in Media and Communications, Acting and Performance, or Sound Production.
  • During this course your skills in the following areas will be developed: organising, communicating, researching, logical and analytical thinking, decision making, problem solving, co-operating with others/team working and vocational adaptability in lighting, sound, audio-visual work.
  • You will be able to apply for supporting roles in the creative industries production and events in Fife and venues in nearby regions
  • You will have access to state of the art resources for this course.

  • You may be required to take part in an informal conversation as part of the application process. This group/ individual conversation may be an information session or a skills based exercise.
