COURSE INFORMATION

This course has been developed to introduce you to science at an introductory level (SCQF 4) in order to allow you to take the first step into a science education. The course introduces key topics in science including biotechnology, electricity, energy, chemistry and science laboratory skills. Successful completion will provide you with an SQA National Progression Award in Science and Technology and progression to a Foundation Apprenticeship Scientific Technologies.

  • Underpinning knowledge in all three main sciences is key on this course and will allow progression to Foundation Apprenticeship Science. 
  • You will learn practical skills in laboratory classes, these include working in a safe manner and following Risk Assessments and COSHH advisories. 
  • Further to this, experimental planning and data analysis will also be taught, all key to working in industry.
  • 2 semesters, 2 afternoons a week via the School College Partnership program.

  • You should have a keen interest in the world of science and technology. Evidence of learning and achieving at SCQF level 3 is desirable. 
  • This is an entry level course to encourage entry into science courses with the aim of progressing to level 5. 
  • One to one conversations with college staff will be compulsory prior to acceptance.
