Fife College culinary arts students are set to gain valuable work experience at a new enterprising hub in Kirkcaldy’s Merchant Quarters.

Five students from the College’s Professional Cookery SCQF Level 4 course will be the first group to take part in a Barista and Customer Service training programme at Enlightenments.

Opened in September, Enlightenments is a new enterprise arm of the Adam Smith Global Foundation based on the town’s High Street.

Created with the support of Fife Council and the College, the hub provides a range of support and practical space for new and young local business start-ups as well as housing a training café.

Business Gateway are also on hand to provide on-site support to help local businesses grow and thrive with a view to potentially taking on vacant units within the town.

The training package for the College’s culinary arts students has been put together by Mike Lowe from The 3 Beans Coffee Company who is running the café element of the hub.

Bryan McCabe-Bell, Faculty Director for Business, Enterprise and Tourism with Supported Programmes at Fife College said:

“We are delighted to be working in collaboration with the Adam Smith Global Foundation and Fife Council to deliver the Enlightenments project in Kirkcaldy’s Merchant Quarter.

“The hub will offer a number of fantastic opportunities for our students, from business and enterprise to culinary arts to hospitality. It is great to see our Professional Cookery students get one of those first opportunities with these bespoke work experience placements.

“Thanks to Mike Lowe for putting together the training package which will be a fantastic chance for our students to put the knowledge and skills they have gained on their course into practice.”
