Fife College learners from HMP Inverness have recently been involved in a project to commemorate 80 years since the outbreak of World War Two.
As part of the project, The Highland Archive Centre delivered workshops in partnership with Fife College, bringing the project to life by supplying a range of letters and other written and printed material from the period.
The learners worked together and created a life-sized highland soldier, decorated with letters from soldiers and families during the war.
The soldier will be proudly displayed in The Highland Archive Centre, which is run by Highlife Highland as part of their 10th Anniversary celebrations. The project ran over a number of weeks, where learners also gained qualifications in core skills.
Fife College tutor Chloe Jennings said “The WWII sculpture project created a relevant context for our learners to develop the necessary skills to achieve SQA qualifications in Working with Others, Problem Solving and Personal Development Awards. As well as learning and developing confidence in working as a team, learners also developed sculpture techniques and learnt a lot about the local area during the war.”
The Archive Centre’s Celebration takes place on 23rd November 2019 and the soldier, will be on display throughout this month.
