Over 40 young football players were honoured at a Fife Elite Football Academy and Fife College partnership celebration event recently.

Held at the College’s Kirkcaldy Campus, the event celebrated the achievements of the first group of day release students who have now achieved their SQA awards.  The awards were presented by Henry McLeish, Chair of the Fife Elite Football Academy and Hugh Hall, Fife College Principal.

Working in partnership with the academy, the College helps develop both the practical abilities as well as the academic portfolio of the players.

A unique programme in Scotland, course units undertaken include nutrition, personal development and strength and conditioning.  The programme enables young people, from S2 to S6, future articulation opportunities at Fife College.

The innovative partnership also benefits current Fife College HN Sport and Fitness students who have the opportunity to work with the elite academy squads during the programme.

Formed in 2014, The Fife Elite Football Academy (FEFA) is an amalgamation of the four senior football clubs in Fife (Dunfermline, Raith Rovers, East Fife and Cowdenbeath).  The aim of the academy is to focus resources on elite player development, and to improve the provision of coaching and resources.

Hugh Hall, Fife College Principal, said: “Congratulations to all the students who received their SQA awards at the FEFA celebration event.  They have all shown fantastic dedication to both their sport and education over the last year and should be very proud of their achievements.

“Thanks also to Fife’s professional football clubs for their invaluable support of the programme.”
